GRC was hired by Four Oaks Community Church to assist in the renovation of 40,000gsf of the 60,000gsf Shannon Lakes Shopping Center. The church purchased the shopping facility to be the site of their new home. The project consisted of transforming the former Food Lion and Dollar General retail spaces into spaces for worship, fellowship, children’s ministry, student ministry and offices. While major changes to the exterior of the structure were intentionally limited for cost control, a new appearance for the exterior was achieved by the addition of a raised shed roof over the new sanctuary and a covered drop-off at the front entry. A clerestory window was also included in the new roof composition to add interest and, filling with light at night, to serve as a symbol of the church’s goal to be a beacon of light to the community
