McCollum Hall Lobby

Florida State University

McCollum Hall is a high-rise resident hall consisting of one- and two-person apartments. The existing facility, built in 1971, had become outdated having no community spaces for study and gathering. FSU requested our help resolving this problem.

The initial solution of a 4,900 SF, two-story addition consisting of study, lounge, and meeting space was stopped due to insufficient funds after completion of the construction documents. An alternative solution was developed to maximize the existing space in the building for lounge and study use and to add a two-story entrance lobby and a study loft. An existing ground floor storage space/workroom was converted into a lounge. Additional ground floor space was remodeled for laundry, RA resource, public restroom, and office spaces. Construction was completed summer 2018.
